Softly seated, life slows...
There is something oddly comforting about having a good chair to sit in. A comfortable chair. A chair that envelopes you and supports you.
I've been noticing that about the chair I use when I do my morning breath work, meditation, and journaling practice.
Lately, I have been taking a moment or two to relax into this feeling of being supported and held and it feels incredibly restorative, as if my nervous system has taken a moment to unplug before rebooting.
I take a deep breath and notice the room around me. Then I feel the density of the chair supporting my back, bottom and sides of my body. As I soften my muscles and relax, I remind myself that at this moment in time everything is OK. I'm safe. And no matter what the day holds in store, all I really need to do focus on is the next moment in time.
This chosen perspective can be extremely helpful when times are challenging or when it feels like there is more to do in the day than humanly possible. And at the end of the day, that's all we can really do anyway, right?
If you don't already have morning or evening practice where you take a few moments to be present and perhaps journal or read (or both), I can't tell you enough, how life-changing those few moments every day can be.
For me, the space where I take this time has been an important consideration. It needs to be a place that feels safe and is quiet and cozy. The coziness can be accomplished by simply adding elements of comfort into space you choose for your daily practice. A good start beyond a comfortable chair, might be a candle and or more books with short inspirational messages.
Have you created such a space for yourself in your home? I'd love to hear about your space and why it feels good to you.
Have an awesome week! Julie
