A few weeks ago, I was visiting my grandchildren in Montana when the temperatures were close to triple digits.
It was so hot that we started making up verses to “It’s Too Darn Hot!” every time we got in the car.
And now, here we are in September, and it’s still “too darn hot” here in Kentucky.
But that hasn't stopped me from looking for signs of autumn.
Have you noticed them yet?
The light arriving a little later in the morning. The first leaves beginning to fall. Perhaps a morning or evening that feels just a bit different.
I love watching the transition from one season to the next. Have you ever noticed how sometimes it is much easier to spot the changes happening in nature than the ones happening in yourself?
Thinking about this, I put together something a little different for this season: 14 autumn journal prompts designed not just to help you reflect on fall, but to reflect on the season of life you're living right now.
They're not the typical questions about your favorite fall memories or what you'd like to accomplish before the end of the year.
Instead, they invite you to consider things like:
What is changing in my life that I haven't fully acknowledged yet?
As the year begins to wind down, what deserves more of my attention—and what deserves less?
What is ordinary in my life today that I may someday wish I could experience again?
I keep thinking about this last one...
We always talk about letting go of things this time of year, but sometimes the most intentional thing we can do is simply savor what is already here.
I hope you'll take a few quiet moments to sit with these questions and perhaps explore the rest Who knows what insight you may discover.
