💗 What if joy is essential?

Are you allowing time for the things that bring you happiness?

Lately I've been spending long hours nurturing seeds to seedlings, transplanting, growing food and creating new beauty in my outdoor spaces.

I'd forgotten how much joy I find in spending my time this way. It's not that I ever stopped gardening, but there were years that I reduced it to a bare minimum because I told myself I didn't have time.

I'd make sure my porch was colorful, that I planted a few vegetables and cared for my strawberries, but that was it.

These full days of gardening lately have reminded me how I used to eek out the last light of the day while weeding a flowerbed and how I was in my happy place at that time.

It got me thinking about how often we let work, the demands of others and the demands we put on ourselves push the things that we love so far down the priority list that they not longer happen on a regular basis.

Somewhere along the way, we start believing that the things that light us up are optional… something we’ll get back to when life slows down.

But what if those things are actually the foundation?

What if tending to what brings you joy—whether it’s a garden, a quiet cup of coffee, a walk, or time creating—isn’t something extra to fit in… but something essential to build around?

Lately, I’ve been reminded that the days feel fuller—not when I do more—but when I include more of what I love.

Maybe today is a good day to ask yourself…
What have I been telling myself I don’t have time for?

And then, just gently, find a way to make a little space for it again.

I am creating a life that feels like home.
