Travel taught me this one secret to slowing down...

What Slow Travel Teaches Us About Slow Living”

Hint: It’s not about going somewhere—it’s about how you be there.

Traveling has a way of reminding me what really matters.

It’s not the packed itinerary. It’s not about seeing everything because you may never come back.
It’s the hike we almost missed but enjoyed the most.
It’s the local spot where the food was simple, but unforgettable.
It’s the moment we paused, exhaled, and felt the place.

That’s the beauty of slow living too.
It’s about being intentional, curious, and awake to the small things in your life–not just on vacation but every day.

As I type this, Curt is cooking bacon in the kitchen for one of our favorite dinners–a Figgy Piggy. (Hamburger with bacon, fig jam, arugula and goat cheese–a thank you to the Octave Grill in Chesterton, Indiana for hooking us on this yummy burger combo.)

I don't eat bacon often, so when I do, I intentionally enjoy it fully. At the moment, this includes the smell of it frying and awakening my sense of hunger.

What can you find to awaken your senses today? What simple thing can you find to pause and really enjoy?

If you want to these type of experiences to happen more frequently, it can help to be more intentional with your choices–what you choose to have in your spaces, what you choose to do (and what you choose not to have and do).

When you are traveling, it often means going off the beaten path or taking the time to find cute little boutique hotel to stay at. Recently we returned from a week's vacation in Nova Scotia and each place we stayed was unique and delightful.

Not only did we find a cute little boutique hotel, but we stayed in an artist's loft overlooking his sculpture garden and at a small woman owned farm. In my latest YouTube video, I share our favorite hikes, the fun places we stayed and where we found the best meals.

If you’ve ever been curious about a trip to Nova Scotia and the renowned Cabot Trail, I hope you find this vlog of our trip enjoyable.
