Not enough time? How to FIX this...

Maybe Time isn't the REAL problem...

Earlier this week I took off a couple of days to go help my sister haul everything back into her sweet little cafe that she'd had to empty out when the floods rolled through our little corner of the world.

They will have to buy new hot water heaters and a new furnace as the ground water rose several feet in the basement, but it didn't rise high enough to bring with it the mud that so many people have to deal with in the aftermath of a flood.

Anyway, I was thinking about how a few years ago I would have been quite stressed to drop everything and go help out. It's sad to realize that for years I had put work on the top of my priority list. The reality is, the work will never get done. There will always be plenty more to do. And if you let it, it will always demand more from you.

I'm so glad that I reordered my priorities to what truly matters to me most in the long run–family, relationships, health and honestly just taking the time to enjoy life. As a result, the time spent helping out, made me feel good in multiple ways. Work could wait and I was able to let it wait–something I really struggled to do in the past.

I think the secret in making this shift is to not only know what your real values are, but to make the strong intention (and actions) to let them be your guiding light for what you choose to do (or not do).

If you do nothing else this week, ask yourself, "What matters most?" and then be sure to let that dictate a good portion of your time.

Wishing you bright colors and sunshine this week, Julie

P.S. I recognize that this can be easier said than done. Goodness knows I spent years trying to figure out how to make it work in my own life. Most of the time, I was convinced it just wasn't possible for me. I didn't see the way out. Let me assure you, there is a better way. If you need support finding it, let's hop on a call to see if you would be a good fit for my Slow Living Project coaching program. You can find time on my schedule here.

I allow time for what matters most to me.
