Life is NOT an emergency...

Wasting Time Isn't a Waste of Time

Hi friend,

A few mornings ago, while journaling, I found myself musing over the idea that wasting time isn’t actually a waste of time.

In those quiet, seemingly unproductive moments—when I let myself simply be—I can feel my whole nervous system exhale. There’s a calm that comes not from doing, but from allowing.

I thought about how different this feels from my old way of living. I used to squeeze every ounce of productivity out of my day—working through lunch, checking emails between bites, barely pausing long enough to breathe, let alone notice the world around me.

And I missed so much.
🍂 The way morning light touched the plants on my desk.
🍂 The sound of the breeze shaking the leaves outside my window.
🍂 The simple joy of seeing someone smile.

Now, when I notice these things, I pause and savor them. They’re small, ordinary moments—but they have a quiet kind of magic that brings me back to what really matters.

I was talking with my mom about this reflection, and she immediately got what I was sharing. She told me that lately, anytime she finds herself rushing, she gently reminds herself:

“Life is not an emergency.”

I love that.
It’s a beautiful mantra for this busy world we live in—a permission slip to slow down, breathe, and remember that most things can wait a minute.

So today, maybe take a little pause.
Let your tea steep a bit longer.
Watch the sunlight move across the room.
Feel your breath deepen.

You might just find that what you once thought was “wasting time” is actually the most nourishing part of your day.

With warmth and calm,
Julie

Pausing is powerful; it reconnects me to peace.
