😡 I keep making the SAME mistake.

A reminder from Mother Nature...

Hey there,

I was outside before sunrise this morning, trying to beat the heat while pulling yet another patch of periwinkle vine from the hillside behind our house.

As I mentioned in earlier emails, I've been working on reclaiming that hill since spring, and every time I head out there, I make the same mistake.

I grab a huge handful of vines and pull as hard as I can.

Very little happens.

The roots stay put.

A few stems break off at ground level.

My hands get sore.

Then I stop, take a beat, and pull just one vine.

Almost every time, the ground then releases the root, as I'm hoping.

It struck me while doing this today, how often I do the exact same thing in life.

I convince myself that juggling five things at once will somehow help me get through my day faster. Instead, I end up feeling scattered, frustrated, and surprisingly exhausted.

Nature has a funny way of reminding us that focused attention is often far more powerful than divided attention.

Now, I'm not suggesting multitasking is always bad. Sometimes pairing two simple activities—like cleaning house and listening to a podcast—is a wonderful combination.

The real question is this:

How do we know when multitasking is helping us... and when it's quietly working against us?

I share about my talk with Mother Nature in a blog post I just put up, along with five simple questions you can ask yourself anytime you're tempted to do it all at once.

I hope it leaves you feeling a little calmer and perhaps gives you permission to tackle just one vine tomorrow.

Have a beautiful week, Julie

I don't have to do everything at once. One mindful step at a time creates meaningful progress.
