Sage Advice in a Surprising Place
You might think from all the suggestions for positivity that I share that I don't get stressed and I don't feel anxious. This couldn't be further from the truth.
Between the increasing polarization everywhere you turn, the concerns of the economy and the personal transitions of leaning into retirement, I do find myself feeling anxious from time to time.
However, I have many people to thank for sharing countless tools that help me manage the wild ride of the monkey mind on the roller coaster of emotions. I learned a new one this week that I couldn't wait to try out and share with you.
This one is a new journaling technique I learned from a post from Will Harlow, an over fifties physiotherapist I follow on YouTube. I love how explicitly he shows how to do various exercises, but sometimes he shares mental exercises as well.
Last week he talked about a journaling technique where he seeks advice from his 85 year old self. Brilliant. So I tried it myself this morning, knowing it would be a helpful technique. It did not disappoint.
I started by asking myself what I was most worried about these days and when I landed on a culprit, I pondered what my 85 year old self would tell me. At first I struggled to get into the mindset of myself at that age, so I shifted to consider what my mother would think.
What surfaced was smart, calming advice that left me feeling more resilient and capable. If you give this a try, let me know how it goes.
Hoping you find wisdom and beauty in unexpected places this week,
💕Julie
